28mm GIJoe HAVOC

1986 brought many strange things to the Joe team and one was the H.A.V.O.C

The H.A.V.O.C. (Heavy Articulated Vehicle Ordnance Carrier) is one of the toughest vehicles in the Joes' arsenal. It is a curious sight. With an impact-resistant, tilt-back canopy and a 2-person prone-position cockpit that take up the whole front cabin, it is surprising that it is actually one of the better armored vehicles and can withstand a lot of punishment. Nevertheless, it is best suited to short, heavy fire campaigns.

The H.A.V.O.C. is a well armed vehicle. Its main weapons are the dual "Leveler" 75mm cannons located at the sides of the hydraulic mid-gunnery post. The cannons are recoilless, allowing them to keep moving and firing without missing a beat. A pair of nose guns and a pair of "Repeater" auto-load 9mm machine guns at the rear supplement the H.A.V.O.C.'s firepower. Should the H.A.V.O.C. find itself being chased about, it has 4 "Lancer" bi-pulse anti-armor heat-seeking missiles which can be fired from the rear. Fully armed, it has a gross weight of 54 tons. Its powerful 9 L, 900 hp twin turbo diesel engine allows it to reach speeds of 40 mph and an operational range of 419 mi.

One of the more interesting features is that the H.A.V.O.C.'s rear unit conceals a launchable 1-man ground effect vehicle (GEV) which can act as a backup fighter or advanced scout. For a small craft, it has a top speed of 60 mph and range of 80 mi. The GEV's only offensive weapons are a pair of computer-synchronized 7.62mm machine guns. The craft is powered by a 110 hp "Blower" direct ignition engine and its airfoil consists of 2 vertical-pitch control lifting hover fans.

No sign of Cross Country yet?

No one has seen him Duke and it’s not like him to go AWOL.

Heavy Metal can you take the GEV into the town and see if you can find him?

Copy that Duke, this thing doesn’t have tracks-

But I think I can manage

Be back in a jiff!

More to come,

Doc

  3. Cool! I wonder if that vehicle served as inspiration for the even crazier 'Rolling Thunder'
