Theseus vs the Minotaur Zinnfiguren

I’m sharing the next set of Zinnfiguren that will  finished for a shadowbox project.

This is the second of the 3 pieces I ordered.

From this company in Germany 

The trick with flats is to try to create depth

This can be done by painting one half of the figure lighter and one half darker. 

This creates the illusion of depth

Now working on Theseus 

Zinnfiguren were originally used as teaching aids

Now working on the backdrop

And foreground using balsa wood that I have scultped

Setting it up

Next I sketch out the back ground

Again I’m looking to create depth on a flat surface

Painting begins on the background

Fit with the painted foreground
